Easy Keerai masiyal

Easy Keerai Masayal | Keerai Kadayal recipe with detailed notes, stepwise pictures and recipe video. Easy, healthy and tasty parupu Keerai kadayal or Spinach Dal recipe. Great main course for hot steamed rice when topped with some ghee.

Another easy, straight forward recipe passed on to me from my mom is this Keerai masiyal. I wonder, how simple yet tasty her recipes are. This popular Keerai masiyal or Keerai kadayal can be made in less than 30 minutes. All you need is pressure cooker. Dump the ingredients, pressure cook, grind it and add the tadka. As simple as that. Scrumptious, healthy and tasty Spinach dal or Dal palak recipe is here for you.

Serve the Keerai with hot steamed rice with any veggie side dish of your choice. Our family loves this keerai and I make it once in a week. I serve it with my favorite egg fry recipe, or potato fry. We just relish it. Sometimes I add some homemade ghee to this keerai to boost in that extra fat for my kids. It only tastes divine and aromatic.

Spinach dal

Do not restrict yourself only with spinach for this recipe. You can try any of your favorite leafy greens. Traditionally, once the keerai is cooked along with the dal, it is transferred to chatti or claypot and mashed with matthu. It gives an unique taste. Wow, claypot cooking is always interesting and healthy. However, grinding the spinach in mixie works well too 🙂 Saves a lot of time !!

Things to Note

Spinach

You can use any keerai or greens of your choice. Works great with Arakeerai, Methi leaves, Siru keerai etc.

Toor Dal

I have added only 1/4 cup of Toor dal, if you would like to increase the ratio, you can increase another 2 tbsp. You can also add half and half Mong dal, but the texture of the keerai might be little sticky.

Garlic

Adding garlic gives an amazing flavor to keerai. Also, it balances the gassy effect of toor dal added.

Tamarind

If you would to skip adding the tamarind to the pressure cooker and extract juice from tamarind, you can add after you temper the tadka and add the ground spinach. Or if you would like to skip the tamarind, sure you can 🙂
